I have a idea about the BP oil spill fix and would like to share it with the world.
This fix is a variant of the tower containment box they tried to use but had to abort because of methane ice buildup inside the structure. The following idea may prevent ice from building up inside the tower.
I propose they drop a tower structure around the well, but this time, leave the top off the tower. In other words, drop the sides of a tower structure around the well and seal it to the seafloor so there aren't any gaps.
After that's in place, use mini subs to attach the top of the tower, which would have a flexible hose to direct the oil to an awaiting tanker on the surface. There should be an intake valve near the bottom of the tower that can remain open to keep the tower from imploding as the oil rushes up the hose to the tanker.
Perhaps at this stage, it can be permanently sealed like this:
As the oil flows up the flexible hose to the surface, attach a couple of pipes or hoses to the bottom of the tower to pump in concrete. As the oil flows up the tube on the top of the tower, it should help pull in concrete pumped in from the bottom. The intake valve can be closed when concrete begins flowing out of the intake valve.

I was looking forward to some new Stargate action on TV, so I was on the sofa and ready when Stargate Universe premiered.
What a disappointment. They should have named it Stargate Galactica.
Why do all these new shows have to be set in dirty, dingy and dark ships with no hope in sight? "Keepin' it real," people say. Well, TV for me is entertainment. Escape. If I want "real," I'll turn off the TV and be surrounded by dark and depressing "real" in real life.
So, along with the depressing storyline (that included a multi-minute boo-hoo story from the senator's daughter), I had trouble hearing some of the dialogue because the background sounds and music were nearly as loud as the actor's voices. I'm sure it wasn't my TV because I didn't change anything when Sanctuary came on afterward, and I could hear everything they said.
Oh well. To each their own, I guess. I'll look forward to Chuck and Warehouse 13 when their seasons start back up. And I'll keep watching Sanctuary (if the arrogant mercenary chick doesn't get too annoying).
Now, I've written stories about characters who like wear cammo, but these people REALLY like cammo...
